Brief history: Peugeot officially started importing cars to the United States in 1958 with the introduction of the 403 sedan. Sales peaked at just over 20,000 units in 1984 but saw a steady decline through 1991 when Peugeot announced plans to cease imports to North America. Only a small number of 1992 models were sold in the United States. Over the years, there have been numerous rumors regarding a Peugeot return to the North American market but no official plans have been announced.
